Qualifications for 12 Step Outreach Service

Suggested Qualifications for Serving 12 Step Outreach

  • We welcome those who would like to carry the message of Centering Prayer. There is a great need to present Centering Prayer and to support those who would like to establish it as their 11th Step practice. Our experience has taught us that doing so is most effective if people meet the following qualifications.  If you do not meet these specific qualifications please DO NOT let that stop you as the stated qualifications are guidelines only.  We are here to help and mentor anyone who is willing to serve regardless of how many years you have been practicing Centering prayer or years in recovery.

To facilitate a 12 Step Centering Prayer Group or start a 12 Step CP Group

  • At least 1 year of sobriety/abstinence Current, active participation in a 12 Step program
  • An established daily practice of Centering Prayer .
  • Facilitator’s Formation or mentoring by a qualified facilitator is helpful but not required.

To be a presenter for 12 Step Introductory Workshops & Follow-up Sessions

  • 3-5 years of sobriety/abstinence/recovery
  • 3-5 years of daily practice of Centering Prayer
  • Has taken all 12 steps at least once.
  • Current, active participation in a 12 Step program including going to meetings and working the steps.
  • Mentoring by a commissioned presenter of the Introductory Workshop Centering Prayer as an 11th step practice.
  • Attendance at a 6 - 10 day Intensive retreat.
  • Have read" Open Mind, Open Heart" by Thomas Keating.

To work on committees to host introductory workshops or retreats

  • Current, active participation in a 12 Step program
  • Daily practice of Centering Prayer

To start an 11th Step Meditation Meeting

  • Current attendance in your recovery program
  • Commitment to attending and or chairing meeting until group is established.
  • Best if there are 2 or more to share responsibility until group gets going.
